Helping You Navigate the Audit Process with Confidence
The mission of the Office of Tax and Revenue’s Audit division is to obtain, maintain, and achieve tax compliance with all District of Columbia tax laws, except real property taxes, through the examination of filed tax returns, identification of non-filers, and unreported tax revenue. Audits are conducted in a manner to provide fair, firm, and uniform treatment to all taxpayers.
- Learn what to expect during a District tax audit. Understand why audits are conducted, what records you may need to provide, and how the process works from initial contact through resolution.
- Disagree with your audit results? You can request an informal conference to present your position and resolve disputes before a final determination. Conferences are conducted by trained hearing officers not involved in your audit.
Voluntary Disclosure Agreement (VDA) Program
- The VDA Program allows eligible taxpayers to come forward voluntarily to report and resolve tax obligations without incurring certain penalties. Find out who qualifies and how to apply.
